About Help Desk Technician

What does a Help Desk Technician do?

As Help Desk Technicians, we are responsible for providing technical assistance with computer systems, hardware, and software. We are responsible for responding to email, chat, or phone queries. We offer technical support to customers using computer systems, hardware, and software. We identify trends in issue reporting and devise preventive solutions. We also convey unresolved issues to the next level of support personnel. We record events and problems and their resolution in logs.

Core tasks:

  • follow-up and update customer status and information
  • pass on any feedback by customers to the appropriate internal team
  • respond to queries on the phone, via email, through remote access, or in-person
  • offer technical assistance on the delivery, set up, maintenance, configuration, and troubleshooting of computer systems, hardware, and software
  • train computer users
  • train other staff on troubleshooting and diagnosing problems
  • gain feedback from customers to improve training methods
  • write and edit training manuals
  • run reports and analyze common complaints and problems
