The headquarters of Hertz is based in Estero, Florida. Hertz operates almost 10,200 corporate and franchise locations internationally. Hertz was founded in 1918 by Watter L. Jacobs. The first location of Hertz was Chicago, Illinois, United States. Hertz operates in 150 countries in North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, the Caribbean, the Middle East and New Zealand. The Hertz corporation retains Dollar and Thrifty Automotive Group which divides into Thrifty Car Rental and Dollar Rent A Car. The parent company of the Hertz corporation, Hertz Global Holdings was ranked 335th in Forbes 2018 Fortune 500 list. L. Jacobs began a small car rental operation with a dozen Model T Ford Cars. Jacob’s fleet expanded to 600 vehicles within five years. The corporation was purchased by John D Hertz and later came to be known as Hertz Drive- Ur-Self System. Jacob became the president and chief operating officer of the Hertz Drive-Ur-Self System in 1961.
