Higher Learning Commission (HLC) was formed in 1895 as the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. HLC corporate head office is based in Chicago, Illinois, the United States. Barbara Gellman Danley is the President of HLC since 2014. HLC was formed to serve the common good by assuring and advancing the quality of higher learning and education accreditation in the United States. It is an independent corporation and one of the six regional institutional accreditors in America. HLC accredits post-secondary education institutes in 19 states including, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, and more. HLC has many employment and volunteer opportunities. Preferably faculty members, independent scholars, and graduate students have the chance to work on a dedicated project connected to higher education accreditation.
