Position Summary:

This is a full time teaching position in the Agricultural Sciences department. We are seeking a candidate with a demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Courses taught may include lecture and/or labs that include a variety of plant science and horticulture topics such as organic gardening, soil science, plant nutrition, integrated pest management, and more.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Agricultural Sciences Instructional Duties

* Actively participates in the retention and recruitment of students
* Embraces appropriate technology tools to accomplish job functions; understands and utilizes available technology as communication and data gathering tools
* Instructs horticulture and related courses
* Interacts and engages with the horticulture industry, advisory committee and other educational institutions
* Develops credit and non-credit courses and short-term workshops and arranges for guest speakers, tours, and seminars to meet the needs of the horticulture industry
* Meets all scheduled classes and/or appointments as assigned
* Maintains appropriate records, grades and attendance; evaluates student's work
* Advises students in academic program requirements
* Places and supervises cooperative work experience (CWE) students if needed
* Integrates technology into curriculum and classroom presentations
* Understands, develops, and provides a learning environment that supports diversity and incorporates as sensitivity to diversity into the workplace

Instructional Program Responsibilities

* Coordinates with and serves as a liaison to the horticulture industry and advisory committee
* Participates in curriculum development, improvement, and revision
* Works collaboratively with other staff members and assists in the successful operation of the program
* Responsible for recruiting students and marketing the program
* Participates in professional developmental activities
* Participates as an active and effective member of the college
* Functions as a life-long learner

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree in horticulture, environmental science, botany, natural resources or related field from an accredited institution

* AND-

Two years successful occupational experience in horticulture

* AND-

One year of industry training, workforce development, and/or teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications:

* Two years of industry training, workforce development, and/or teaching experience
* Experience with the nursery/greenhouse industry
* Experience with and commitment to sustainable and ecologically based horticultural practices
* Four years or more of successful occupational experience in horticulture
* Knowledge and experience of the Oregon horticultural industry
* Experience in teaching online and/or hybrid courses
* Bilingual and Bi-cultural (Spanish and English)

Terms of Employment:

* This is a 100%, 10-month faculty assignment of the F9 band and grade
* Requires flexible work schedule based upon program needs which includes some evening and weekend work and/or travel; in-state and out-of-state meetings, conferences, institutes, training and/or other meeting attendance as required
* Recently hired faculty are expected to participate in a new faculty orientation program
* Teaching assignment may include evening and weekend courses and the use of non-traditional delivery methodologies
* Requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
* Upon hire, must pass security inquiry which may include criminal history; only information relevant to the position will be considered

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Even though weight lifted may be negligible, it may be rated light work if frequent walking and/or standing is required.
