About Hospice Registered Nurse

What does a Hospice Registered Nurse do?

As Hospice registered nurses, we shoulder the responsibility to constantly provide care to the elderly and terminally ill patients. To work effectively, we evaluate the health needs of our patients and create care plans specifically for them. Our work is so critical that it involves flexible shifts on weekends and holidays. We need to communicate frequently with other members of the management team and we report to a nursing staff supervisor. Sometimes, we are to travel to carry out our job as in-home caregivers.

Core tasks:

  • monitor and record patient vital signs
  • alert other medical staff when there are potentially dangerous signs
  • carry out the treatment plans recommended by the medical doctor
  • direct family members to available support resources for them while preparing them for the eventuality of death
  • constantly observe patients and keep detailed documentation of findings
  • notify all the affected parties in the medical team if there is patient death
