Howard University is a private research university functioning with 13 schools and colleges. Since its inception, the university has awarded over 120,000 degrees in arts, sciences, and humanities and ranked as the top producer of African American undergraduates by the National Science Foundation. Its main campus is located on a hilltop in Northwest Washington. The Howard University Health Sciences division comprises the Howard University Hospital, the Colleges of Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing and Allied Health Sciences. Its College of Medicine is known globally for imparting training to students and convert them into competent physicians who provide healthcare in medically underserved communities. The college is a well-known institution for training women surgeons. For over 140 years, the Howard University School of Law has served as an advocate for social justice and social change. The Law School has been named among the top 20 public service schools by National Jurist magazine. Howard University produced over 4,000 social engineers.
