St. John's Hospital was founded in 1875 and is headquartered in Springfield, IL. It has 457 licensed beds and is a teaching hospital for the students of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. John's is a member of the Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS), a Roman Catholic healthcare mission founded to continue the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. It is funded by the Hospital Sisters of Saint Francis and has more than 3,000 staff members. St. John's hospital is one of the largest employers in the Springfield area. It has a community of nearly 700 doctors, podiatrists and dentists. More than 15,000 surgical procedures are performed at St. John's each year. The hospital is committed to offering a comprehensive array of health care services to central and southern Illinois.
