The very first Hwy 55 was opened by Kenney Moore in a mall in small-town North Carolina in 1991. At the time, it was called Andy's Cheesesteaks & Cheeseburgers, and its origins were humble: from morning to night, Kenney cooked each burger alone. He couldn't afford a typical kitchen at a restaurant. Today, there are more than 130 of those open-grill diners in eight states and two countries, but their missions are the same as those of Kenney when he opened the doors for the first time in 1991 which is to offer genuine hospitality and fresh food to everyone who wants a little more from their dining experience. Hwy 55 offers openings for job seekers. It also gives various advantage to its members such as retirement benefits, workplace benefits and medical and dental insurance.
