About Instructional Coach

What does an Instructional Coach do?

Working as Instructional Coaches, we observe and coach instructional staff. We ensure that instruction is always intentional, rigorous, and aligned. It is our job to identify problems in academic performance. We recommend put in place solutions in a timely manner. We​ ​maintain​ ​positive​ ​relationships​ ​with​ ​students and​ ​families​. ​Guiding​ ​students​ ​and​ ​families​ ​through​ ​the​ ​college​ ​readiness​ ​and application​ ​process is our job. We provide professional support and technical assistance to teachers. We ensure the full implementation of the instructional focus and expectations. Setting up effective classroom environments is a part of our job.

Core tasks:

  • assist in planning effective lessons
  • conduct and debrief demonstration classes
  • co-teach occasional classes
  • provide in-class coaching, including videotaping and debriefing lessons
  • assist in planning school-based professional development
  • assist in the proper implementation of assessments
  • maintain an up-to-date log of all activities in and out of classrooms
  • track individual teacher progress
  • check teacher participation in professional development activities
