Position Summary:
This is a full-time faculty position that actively and effectively teaches a variety of computer science transfer classes, including but not limited to, computational thinking, introductory software engineering, computer architecture, data structures, and computer science electives. The Computer Science Instructor helps promote the access and success of students who have not traditionally participated in computer science education. In addition to teaching, faculty are involved in program leadership, student advising, curriculum development and outcomes.
This position will begin Fall 2020.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Instructional Program Responsibilities
* Participates in curriculum development;
* Recommends course outline revisions
* Recommends textbooks and other instructional materials and equipment
* Participates in department level assessment of student learning outcomes
* Recommends library and reference materials
* Contributes suggestions for annual department budget
* Keeps up to date on technological changes and developments in subject area
* Attends staff meetings and participates in designated committee work
* Represents the department at pertinent meetings as required
* Promotes positive images of college and college programs
* Develops and maintains contacts with community and professional organizations
* Functions as a life-long learner
Instruction
* Instructs a variety of computer science transfer classes, including but not limited to, computational thinking, programing, introductory software engineering, computer architecture, data structures, web application development, and computer science electives
* Meets all scheduled and special classes - day, possibly evening and weekends
* Teaches classes as assigned, following approved course outlines
* Prepares and develops materials for assigned classes
* Posts and maintains office hours
* Provides students with course syllabi
* Maintains records of grades and attendance; reports individual academic grades when required
* Maintains college facilities and equipment

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Master degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering from an accredited institution
* OR-
Masters degree in related field and 30+ graduate credits in Computer Science and/or Software Engineering

* Demonstrated understanding of equity gaps and barriers to success for different student populations
* Applied knowledge of best practices in actively and effectively teaching to a diverse student population
* Demonstrated commitment to access and success of students who have not traditionally participated in computer science education
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience teaching Computer Science topics (Preferred teaching topics include: computational thinking, software engineering, computer architecture, and data structures)
* Experience teaching in a community college or teaching lower division courses at a college/university
* Experience teaching online and/or hybrid courses
* Industry experience as a software engineer or as a trainer of software engineers
* Experience in curriculum development, student advising and program coordination

Terms of Employment:
* This is a 100 percent, 10 month faculty position. Recently hired faculty are expected to participate in a new faculty orientation program
* This assignment is subject to budget approval
* Requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
* Upon hire, must pass security inquiry which may include criminal and/or driving history; only information relevant to the position will be considered
* Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which includes some evening and weekend work and/or travel; in-state and out-of-state meetings, conferences, institutes, training and/or other meeting attendance as required.

Physical Requirements - Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Even though weight lifted may be negligible, it may be rated light work if frequent walking and/or standing is required.
