If you are a quick learner, good listener and okay with daily changes in duties and skills, it's a good fit, it had the hybrid 4 days remote and 1 day in office.
Pros and Cons
Met many people, team members always willing to help
Did not like the 12-8:30 pm hours

I don’t really have a story just my experience was unsavory. There was no support after training. And it seems like no one wants the next person to do better than them. However, if you aren’t focused on that and are mature enough to see through this the pay and benefits are great. I was able to be financially independent and take care of my son with the salary. I have to admit I was somewhat immature and did not realize that although the environment was sometimes difficult that this was an important role thst has rules in place becsuse of this. If I could do it all over again I would have stayed long enough to get some savings and start my own business. I’m not the type that does well being micro managed. Again pay and benefits are magnificent just not the people.
Pros and Cons
Pay and benefits
Parking was faaaaarrr, micromanaging, little support after training, strict rules with consequences

I have worked at the Service nearly 21 years now. I started in Code and Edit, then moved to Accounts Management. There, I started as a CSR before I became a Lead for my team. Two years later I was introduced into Management. I have been a Frontline Manager for almost 9 years. I currently manage a newly hired team of 19 employees. They are being skilled to do tax adjustments for individual filers and service through teleworking.
Pros and Cons
I've learned much about dealing with personal problems of employees and understanding the numbers.
Teleworking allows little interaction with others.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Taxpayer Service Division assists taxpayers in meeting their Federal tax return filing and payment obligations through its telephone helplines, via the Internet, at IRS Taxpayer Assistance Centers, and through volunteer-provided income tax assistance. It is a productive workplace that supportive colleagues help to be successful.
Pros and Cons
Scheduling is excellent and job security.
There are not any.

If the IRS didnt discontinue TIC (Training Instructor Cadre) position, I would probably still be working there. Now instead of humans teaching newly hired employees, computers are. Quite a shame!
Pros and Cons
Decent pay, nice coworkers
Bad parking, very little positive feedback, boring(When staffing phone lines)

Chamblee, GA - November 11, 2021
I was given the highest hiring status of 1A, an honor. Human Resource advised me not to discuss this with anyone but, they did. From the first day, I experienced resentment and sometimes intimidation and thoughtless pranks. I did get a right to sue letter. On the bright side, having years of experience in tax preparation, I was exposed to so many different areas, even being chosen to participate on the Tax Commissioner's Special Task Force to write procedures to identify and resolve identity theft cases, on a team of 30.
Pros and Cons
Exposure to IRS procedures that enriched my knowledge.
Extremely hostile environment.

I transfered to the IRS, from Department of Defense, in 2007 for a promotion. What a mistake! The IRS is inbred and ingrown. If you aren't part of the good old boys club, you are likely to become stagnant, lose any skills you have and not be allowed to make a difference. Although selected for and completed a Senior Manager Readiness Program, I was never supported by management and wasted that training and time. The leadership is often "Critical Hires" which means they possess a skill that can't be found within the IRS and therefore entitled to direct hiring at exorbitant rates. Truth be told, they don't possess anything unique but most know someone on the inside.
I would most definitely NOT repeat that period of my life. If you are young and can go there for a couple years to get a good salary and GS level, then maybe you can use it as a stepping stone. Don't go there and plan to make a difference, they don't want change.
Pros and Cons
Salary and benefits - same as any Federal Agency
Everything else. Lack of understanding about technology, reluctance to move to modern tools.

I started processing tax returns eight years ago with my sisters. It has became a wonderful experience in learning to process tax returns for the Internal Revenue Service, and assisting them to work remote from a facility in Carrollton, Georgia.
Also, I have met met of all ages, and living levels of life. It makes me feel good that I can give back to the community by volunteering for the Internal Revenue Service during tax season.
Pros and Cons
Learning the new tax laws every year and recertifying each year to process tax returns.
Some clients get upset when I follow the tax rules according to law and will not lie for them.
