What does an IT Business Analyst do?

As IT Business Analysts, we manage project work to drive predictable delivery, on-time, and on-budget. We drive system implementation projects. We develop and execute technology roadmaps. We define business processes while creating associated system requirements. We interpret business user needs into technology and process changes. We document business-critical systems using developed IT management standards. We identify dependencies and intersection points regarding IT systems. We provide work estimates that permit prioritization. We serve as the liaison between IT and the business users. We report project status to the business owners and IT management.

Core tasks:

  • maintain a flow of communication between the business users and IT
  • utilize both business and IT expertise to help business owners determine priorities
  • perform requirements gathering with the business user community for IT projects
  • ensure a sound understanding of the project objectives
  • analyze business requirements to determine the best development approach within the existing IT systems
  • mentor junior business analysts
