The University of Kansas Health System is seeking an IT Physician Support Specialist who will act as one of the primary resources for the physician group, as the connection to our Healthcare Information Technology Services department, for technology planning, testing, implementation, and support. This individual will connect all technology impacts to workflow back with the physicians daily operations. They will be key role in understanding physician's technical needs and serve as a liaison between these end users and the IT department.

  • Must understand technology based physician workflows, including remote and mobile based computing workflows.

  • Able to create, review and, edit testing documentation regarding physician workflows, and how changes in technology could impact existing workflows.

  • Has advanced knowledge with MacOS, Apple IOS, and Android mobile devices, as well as awareness with basic technology functionality, and how it impacts physician workflows.

  • Has knowledge with Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems, as well as basic technology functionality knowledge, and how it impacts physician workflows.

  • Knowledgeable around healthcare related technologies, such as EHR, dictation, imaging, mobility, and productivity tools.

  • Responsible for coordinating rounding tours for routine technology health checks with Informatics, Operations, and IT staff. Document findings and work with Program Manager to appropriately route to workstreams for follow up and implementation.

  • Respond promptly to problems identified by physicians and convey skillfully to administrators/analysts as well as respond back to physician.

  • Identify and ensure follow through on opportunities plus demonstrate skill along with persistence to overcome objections.

  • A relationship-builder across teams, and able to establish, cultivate and maintain a rapport with providers, Informatics, IT, and Operations.

  • Demonstrates strong communication and presentation skills including the ability to articulate and facilitate discussions across disciplines.

  • Works with all levels of management in an effective, proactive, manner. Communicating frequently between IT and provider teams, to provide technology issue/update status, including technology health, issue updates, risks, and impacts to the providers.

  • Anticipates and meets, or exceeds, internal and/or external customer expectations and requirements; establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Associates Degree in Computer Science, Technology, Education, Healthcare Administration, or related field.

  • Excellent understanding of departmental/clinical operations and provider workflows and terminology.

  • Ability to demonstrate leadership and shows high interest in systems improvement, (computerized or human process), strong analytical and problem-solving skills; willing to work at a detailed level.

  • Ability to effectively understand physician requirements and identify technology and process-based solutions.

  • Ability to balance customer focus while supporting EHR initiatives.

  • Clear communication skills both written and verbal.

  • Strong skills in critical thinking and creative problem solving.

  • Ability to keep confidential information regarding patients, providers, team members

  • Ability to withstand crisis situations.


  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Technology, Education, Healthcare Administration, or related field.

  • National certification like CPHIMS from HIMSS.

  • Certification in one Epic application.

  • 2+ years experience working with physicians.

  • 4+ years healthcare experience
