I worked for Kmart in Hamilton, Montana for nearly five years. I enjoyed the job and had every intention of staying with it, but when Covid came along store hours were drastically dropped and all part time employees were put on leave. When I was not called back to work with two months, I elected to take another job. My Kmart store was the last one in Montana, the other four that were open when I had begun had closed during my employment. Now it too is closed and my understanding is only three stores are left in the United States.

Pros and Cons
Employees were treated well and there were frequent employee appreciation events.
The corporate management was incompetant and destroyed this iconic business.

in 2016, I worked at one of the few Kmart stores in the United States located in Sioux Falls, SD. During that time, the company recently merged with Sears, another favorite company of mine outside of Kmart. I definitely learned alot there and may even contributed a little bit to my personal growth, especially after learning that companies such HGTV magazine was also associated with the company. It would be nice to have other Kmart stores available still, but it was sad when mine closed.

Pros and Cons
Working with the best merchandise, receiving the best training and experience.
Not being paid out what I should have, especially when helping with sales.

The store was newly opening and I was hired to help set up the store and open it, and then work as a cashier. 3 days in the Manager saw my good work ethics, qualities & attitude and he asked if I would like the position of HR Manager. I said yes, they gave me an office a manual and let me learn on my own. Not the best way to train, but for me I flourished. Kmart was a retail store, pay was not good, but the friends I made was special and I learned alot about Human Resources, training and myself.
