Lactation Consultant

HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest is a 423-bed
acute care hospital that has been serving the north Houston community for
more than 40 years, providing a wide range of medical services including
cardiology, maternity care, neonatal intensive care, pediatrics, bariatrics and
neurology.

HCA Houston Healthcare Northwest is
affiliated with HCA Houston Healthcare, part of the HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast
Division. The division is a comprehensive network of hospitals, outpatient
surgery centers, emergency centers and diagnostic imaging facilities in greater
Houston, Corpus Christi and South Texas. Facilities include: 17 hospitals, nine
ambulatory care centers, 13 off-campus emergency centers, and a regional
transfer center.

What
you will do in this role:

• Performs
  initial and on-going assessments of the patients lactation goals and
  issues.
• The
  lactation consultant takes patient histories, performs breast and feeding
  evaluations, develops treatment plans and makes appropriate referrals as
  indicated.
• Designs
  and implements education programs and community outreach activities as
  needed.
• Will
  be responsible for knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on
  physical, psychological, educational, safety and related criteria for the
  neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric population. Requires
  critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work
  independently and set priorities.
• Ability
  to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Demonstrates
  understanding of HCAs Patients First safety initiative by strict
  compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.
• Interfaces
  directly with the public, physicians, staff, patients, administration and
  ancillary/support department representatives.
• Possesses
  excellent written and verbal communications skills.
• Maintains
  confidentiality of patients medical records.
• Regular
  and predictable attendance is required.

Qualifications

What qualifications you will need:

• IBCLC-RLC Certification
• Preferred: college degree from accredited school in related field
• Minimum of one year experience in lactation support
