The Mechanical Engineer will create and improve products and processes by utilizing innovative engineering techniques. These techniques include the use of new materials, mechanical applications, production processes, engineering simulations, risk analysis, systems engineering, testing, data collection, research, and root cause analysis tools.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for new products, changes, and improvements through definition, development, documentation, training, implementation, and sustainability.
Work with manufacturing team to improve designs for manufacturability and assembly.
Oversee the manufacturing of prototype products and coordinate testing to ensure product meets criteria and standards.
Integrate new equipment and materials into manufacturing using 2D and 3D CAD modeling with FEA studies.
Develop SOPs as needed for the engineering department.
Study and analyze variations in critical manufacturing and engineering processes.
Lead internal and external engineering reviews to ensure systems meet performance expectations.
Ensure that new designs and components meet the cost, performance and functional requirements on new product programs.
Participate in all phases of new product development, especially Concept Development, Design Validation and Production Process Validation.
Ensure timely and adequate completion of all applicable phases of projects.
Conduct cost and feasibility studies.
Track progress of all projects and communicate timelines and progress updates to customers, leadership, and other stakeholders.
Support NPD by participating in design reviews and completing tasked deliverables.
Customer Fit Trialswhich includes traveling onsite to customer location.
Willing to take on tasks outside of his/her job description as needed to assist in meeting department goals.
Create, review, approve, and release Bills of Materials and load part routings into ERP system.
Generate, review, and approve engineering change notices (ECNs) as required.
Perform configuration management activities with existing and new products.
Complete tolerance stack analysis for creating dimensional controls on engineering documentation
Provide technical evaluations and reports on issues for customer service and field problems.
Ensure that all materials used in the manufacture of finished products have been tested and approved for quality and reliability.
Utilize warranty data to identify issues related to mechanical systems for risk mitigation purposes.
Work with suppliers on the development of new systems and components to ensure continuous improvement in the quality and value of our boat systems.
Develop component & system FMEA, DVP and execute tests.
Design, conduct, analyze, and document design verification tests of mechanical component products and assemblies as needed.
Analyze test data and make recommendations for product improvements.
Communicate test results and recommendations to design engineers and program management.
Support continuous improvement activities as assigned.
Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventative actions.
Five years previous work experience with mechanical engineering and design.
Proven product design and development experience throughout all phases.
Demonstrated understanding functional requirements and design systems to meet program goals.
2 years Configuration management experience.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft products such as (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook Access)
Working knowledge of other programs such as (G-Code, Gerber files, Arduino, and CAM software)
Detailed experience of tooling, fixtures, gauge design and build as well as other equipment associated with a manufacturing environment.
GD & T principles and applications.
Knowledge of standards applied by the International Standards Organization (ISO), ASME, and ANSI.
Demonstrated problem solving, team, and interpersonal skills used to influence others to accomplish identified objectives.
Self-starter, high energy individual who can work effectively without supervision.
Proven experience utilizing engineering programs such as (Siemens NX, Solid Works, Autodesk Inventor, Teamcenter, or equivalent) for 3D modeling, 2D drawing creation, and lifecycle management.
Ability to work multiple projects simultaneously and maintain accurate and organized records and data.
Independent, adaptable, and motivated self-starter willing to take ownership of project results and deadlines.
Ability to write reports that summarize test results and that communicate the data, conclusions, and recommendations in a concise manner.
Demonstrated ability with design of testing equipment.
Strong decision making, organizational and analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to overcome unforeseen obstacles.
Knowledge of quality and systems engineering principles.
Must be willing to travel (minimum 10%).
Must also be able to work well with cross-functional groups including technicians, design engineers, analysis engineers, and program managers.
Must be able to work independently when needed to develop solutions with little supervision.
Detailed understanding of physical properties including shock, vibration, temperature, acceleration, force, torque, stress, pressure, and displacement in engineering applications.
Experience with writing test plans, procedures, and reports.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on routine basis.
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Structural, Industrial, Marine, Manufacturing Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related discipline.
Experience with data acquisition systems and instrumentation selection.
Lean Six Sigma experience preferred.
Project management utilizing MS Project, Primavera, or similar software.
