About Library Clerk

What does a Library Clerk do?

As Library Clerks, we are responsible for the circulation of materials, collection maintenance, information services, and reader’s advisory to keep all the records in check for better organization and decorum. This position may include programming for babies, school-age children, and young adults. Additionally, we follow predetermined procedures and policies in the library and use library resources that are simple or of limited complexity for the potential feasibility of clients. We also check out and checks in library materials including registers students and other users of the library to performs other circulation-related activities using different systems. We take care of miscellaneous works related to the documentation, making reports, and tracking the records regularly.

Core tasks:

  • collect and prepare materials for binding, including filling out binding slips and updating all records
  • enter data for complex bibliographic and other records
  • extract data from online records and incorporate it into offline records
  • track supplies, checks availability and item designations on vendor websites submit lists of needed items to supervisor
  • perform other related duties as assigned
