About Library Media Specialist

What does a Library Media Specialist do?

As Library Media Specialists, we are responsible for providing an updated and culturally diverse group of print and non-print curriculum resources. We carry an efficient system for cataloguing all library materials. We instruct teachers and students on how to use the library system. Maintaining a collection of resources appropriate to the curriculum is also a part of our duty. We evaluate emerging technologies to support teaching and learning. Working as Library Media Specialists, we are responsible for connecting the school with the global learning community. We communicate with teachers and students related to any issue. Finally, we ensure the provision of complete access to online information resources.

Core tasks:

  • providing individual guidance to students and teachers
  • teaching classes and groups as required
  • giving book talks as requested
  • providing orientation to the library media program
