About Line Service Technician

What does a Line Service Technician do?

As line service technicians, we provide ground support to arriving and departing aircraft. We are typically employed by airlines or companies providing ground service. Working primarily in customer service, this entry level role supports other departments as well, such as maintenance and facilities. Because of this day-to-day exposure to other departments as well as several different aspects of aviation, it is a great starting position for those considering a career in this industry.

Core tasks:

  • providing a variety of aircraft services, including marshaling, fueling, hangar storage, towing, and other ground support
  • maintaining cleanliness of aircraft exterior, performing snow removal duties
  • coordinating ramp movements for arriving and departing aircraft
  • operating ground service equipment, such as tugs, fuel trucks, and transport vans
  • initiating emergency response procedures when required
  • providing shuttle service for passengers/crew
  • performing lawn care and janitorial services
