As Locomotive Engineers, we drive turbine-electric or diesel-electric locomotives. We carry out inspections before and after runs according to the policy and procedural guidelines. Our duties include remaining in liaison with the traffic control center via radio to issue and receive information regarding oncoming trains, stops or delays. We also diagnose minor breakdowns and perform minor service and maintenance when required while report other major mechanical malfunctions as well as coordinate with associated departments to resolve these malfunctions. Our tasks also cover ensuring that logbooks and procedure manuals are located in the driver’s cab for use by the staff. We prepare reports to appropriately explain unscheduled delays, stops signaling problems or accidents.
