The mission and purpose of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services is to inspire hope by helping those in need. They also provide Medi-Cal health insurance, CalFresh food assistance, CalWORKs family cash assistance and personal general relief cash assistance. They further provide assistance to clients who encounter homelessness, domestic violence, drug abuse disorders and many other social service programs. The responsibility of the company’s intergovernmental relations department is to identify, monitor, and analyze proposed state and federal laws and funds that may affect the programs and services provided by DPSS. The DPSS began as the Office of Children and Women’s Work Supervision established in 1891 to take care of impoverished women and their children under the guidance of the Poverty Act of 1851.
