Position Summary:
Assists with instruction of students in a specialized program featuring computer-assisted manufacturing and high-end metal fabrication; maintains lab setting and a wide-variety of high technology manufacturing equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Instructional Assistance
* Assists lab instructors as directed
* Assists instructors in identifying student progress in relation to course objectives for grading purposes
* Assists instructors with setup and production, writing, editing and proofing code programs
* Ensures safe student working practices and/or utilization of equipment
* Prepares all base materials for Machining and Welding/Fabrication classes
* Orders distributes and maintains lab supplies
* Orders materials and disposes of scrap following college guidelines
* Participates in department meetings
* Contributes to the program dialog regarding curriculum, student recruitment, and future direction
* Participates in student recruitment and retention activities such as open houses, career fairs, public demonstrations, or tours
Lab Support
* Oversees the preparation of parts and equipment, instructional facilities and materials
* Maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment in all areas of responsibility
* Ensures the upkeep and housekeeping of all areas of responsibility
* Maintains clean work areas and laboratories
* Develops, constructs, and maintains training aids
* Ensures orderly and complete lab endings and ensures that tools/supplies are returned to proper storage
* Secures all doors, windows, and gates
* Shuts down heating, air conditioning, and lights
* Shuts down all electrical appliances
* Checks and locks doors
* Assures that lab areas are in compliance with health, fire, and Oregon OSHA standards
* Operates tools and test equipment, store rooms, college-owned vehicles and maintains inventories
* Balances and reconciles purchase card use and receipts
* Disposes of surplus equipment or scrap materials following college practices
Department Responsibilities
* Supervises work study students; hires, develops work schedules, oversees daily activities, and evaluates performance
* Reports safety/sanitary/fire hazards or issues to program chair and/or supervisor

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma and/or G.E.D. (General Equivalency Diploma)
* AND-
Four years of experience as a general machinist or fabricator*
* AND-
Experience training CNC (Computer Numerical Control) operators, machinists and/or fabricators
* OR-
Associate degree from an accredited institution
* AND-
Two years of experience as a general machinist or fabricator*
* AND-
Experience training CNC (Computer Numerical Control) operators, machinists and/or fabricators
* Experience as a general machinist or fabricator should include experience with CNC setup and production, blueprint reading, layout and measurement; writing, editing and proofing "G" code programs
Core Competencies
* Skill in prioritizing tasks; monitoring records and files; maintaining supply inventories; using computers and related software; performing basic maintenance
* Skills in communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
Preferred Qualifications
* Associate Degree from an accredited institution in Manufacturing/Machinist and/or Welding/Fabricator
* Machine maintenance experience
* CAM (Computer Aided Machining) programming experience
* CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) and Parametric Solid Modeling experience

Terms of Employment
* This is a full-time, classified assignment at the B3 band and grade of the classified salary schedule
* Upon hire, must pass a security inquiry which may include criminal history; only information relevant to the position will be considered
* Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
* Requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
* Upon hire must successfully complete a physical agility test and psychological assessment
