About Mate

What does a Mate do?

As mates, we are the captain’s β€œright hand”. We perform our duties as prescribed by the captain. We have to ensure that the captain's work is simple and is followed by the rest of the members. We inspect and maintain the inventory of equipment. We also have a responsibility to ensure that tools are used in the right ways and handled properly. We have to inspect and check every piece of equipment if there are any damages and then order repairs for them. We also help the captains when they are not on duty to oversee the ship operations and navigation.

Core tasks:

  • take the captain role when captain is not on duty
  • monitor equipment to check if there is any damage
  • maintain the inventory
  • ensure equipment is used in the right way
