About Mechanical Designer

What does a Mechanical Designer do?

As Mechanical Designers, we prepare drawings by working independently in the design department. We also create all drawings required to complete a project and develop a layout of the system, components, and parts. In addition to that, we draw multiple views of the system, by representing the connection of the parts and identifying dimensions, angles, curvatures, tolerances, and materials. We prepare bills of materials by studying drawings, specifications, and related documents and identify and verify specifications by examining engineering documents and performing calculations necessary to complete dimensions and tolerances. Additionally, we complete projects by assisting the project manager directly and approving design and modification activities, and sure the operation of equipment by assisting engineers and field crew personnel during installation and startup of the project and traveling to the job site, if required.

Core tasks:

  • modify drawings by studying changes and redrawing system, components, and parts
  • maintain historical records by filing project notes, specifications and maintain standards books
  • maintain the database by archiving drawings after the issue and check print by utilizing checking procedures
  • provide the project manager with necessary project information by conferring with production personnel, vendors
