Description
St. Luke’s reimburses for RMA/CMA certification fees annually.
Responsible for assisting physician(s) and physician extender(s), as applicable, with clinical patient medical care duties, including patient triage, rooming of patients, and other clinical duties as assigned by physician. Performs both administrative and clinical duties as assign by physician and supervisor. Displays maturity, flexibility, and effective organization and communication skills in dealing with other people. Works cooperatively with other departments and medical facilities. Promotes teamwork within the department. Performs as part of a health care team to provide high quality medical services. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission and values.
Principle Accountabilities:
1. Clinical
a.Rooms patients.
b.Measures and records vital signs.
c.Records chief complaint and patient history.
d.Prepares patients for examinations.
e.Assists physicians and physician extenders with exams and minor office procedures.
f.Administers medications per physician orders.
g.Provides patient education per physician orders.
h.Stocks, cleans, and maintains sufficient supplies and equipment.
i.Disposes of biohazard and waste according to OSHA standards.
j.Performs accurate documentation.
2. Administrative
a.Answers the phone and schedules appointments.
b.Greets patients and completes required forms.
c.Files and maintains medical records.
d.Processes mail.
e.Covers front desk reception as needed.
3.Performs other work duties as assigned.
Education
High school diploma required. Graduate of MA program and/or greater than one year of medical assisting experience. RMA, CMA, NCMA, CCMA, ABR-OE, or comparable credential required.
Experience
Graduate of MA program and/or greater than one year of medical assisting experience. Basic computer skills required. Good verbal and documentation skills required. The assessment, care and treatment provided by the medical assistant will be consistent with the specific age related needs of the patient. The medical assistant is competent to care for patient age groups consistent with the specialties of the physician(s) in the practice.
Working Conditions
Employee is required to sit and walk frequently. Employee must lift/carry a light (1-20 lbs.) load frequently, a medium (21-50 lbs.) and/or heavy (50 lbs. +) load occasionally. Employee may be required to lift over 100 lbs. with assistance. Employee is occasionally required to bend, squat, crawl, kneel, climb, lift waist to overhead. Employee is occasionally required to reach forward and reach overhead. Employee may be required to do simple grasping and pushing/pulling. (Occasionally: 1-33%, Frequently: 34-66%, Continuously: 67-100%) The most significant of duties are included but this does not exclude occasional work assignments not mentioned or developmental duties.
