About Medical Support Assistant

What does a Medical Support Assistant do?

As medical support assistants, we work in medical units to support doctors with management and administrative work. We provide administrative support to the health care staff. We must perform tasks like maintenance and updating patient inventory, and controlling patient’s accounts. Our duties include answering calls, handling communication, and programming patient’s appointments. We usually work closely with doctors, nurses, and other medical staff in hospitals, clinics, and private practices. Our job includes verifying patient’s demographics and insurance information. We also have to perform tasks like scheduling appointments and assisting with other clerical tasks and duties.

Core tasks:

  • greeting and welcoming patients and visitors.
  • organizing new patient paperwork and other health-related documents.
  • attending phone calls.
  • providing responsive service to patients and staff.
