Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) was founded in 1824. MUSC resumes the tradition of education excellency, research and care for patients that employs more than 17,000 employees who educates more than 3,000 students. MUSC trains nearly 800 residents in six colleges and operates and owns eight hospitals located in Florence, Chester, Charleston, Lancaster, and Marion counties. The university provides an inter-occupational environment for learning and production through education of health care. The employees in the University are always in a continuous state of evolution and improvement. The mission of the University is to provide excellence in patient care in a respectful environment. MUSC attracts more than $ 250 million annually in research funding wherein the university has a record of more than $276 million in research funding only in Fiscal Year 2018. MUSC provides reasonable components, when requested unless accommodation would cause undue hardship. The university is ranked as the leading hospital in South Carolina for the six consecutive years by the U.S News and World Report in 2020.
