Medscape is a leading global online destination for physicians and healthcare professionals around the world, providing the latest medical news and expert opinions; basic instant care medication and disease information; as well as related professional education and CME. Medscape was launched by SCP Communications, Inc. on May 22, 1995 under the guidance of its CEO Peter Frishauf. George D. Lundberg became the editor-in-chief of the firm in 1999. Before joining Medscape for seventeen years, he served as the editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association. Medscape, Inc. further went public again and began trading on the Nasdaq under the stock code of MSCP in September 1999. In 2000, Medscape merged with another listed company, MedicaLogic, Inc. MedicaLogic filed for bankruptcy and sold Medscape to WebMD in December 2001. In 2009, the publication of the Medscape Medical Journal ceased. In January 2013, Eric Topol was appointed as the editor-in-chief of Medscape. In the same year, Lundberg returned to Medscape as editor-in-chief.
