Meltwater was formed in 2001 in Oslo, Norway. According to mythology, the company began with just two individuals, a coffee machine, and $15,000 in seed money. Shack15, a small office space in an Oslo shipyard where the team pieced together borrowed technology to establish the first server farm, was the first address. The team worked relentlessly to educate the Norwegian market on the importance of tracking, monitoring, and evaluating online news as the world's first online media monitoring organization. The company's operations began growing throughout Scandinavia, the United Kingdom, and subsequently Europe in the early 2000s, and the footprint continued to grow.
