Melrose Park Menards is a joke. They have dedicated employees there that don’t get recognized for everything they do. The management is a complete joke. You have assistant store managers who do nothing all day but stand around and talk about other employees. They throw their weight around like they can’t be touched. You have two managers who are completely racist. One manager thinks she’s the bomb.com when she ain’t nothing but a two faced bully. The General Manager has favorites and lets others walk all over him when he’s the one who is suppose to run the store. He never has any ones back and let you fall. Security is a joke. All they do is flirt and have flings with cashiers. Cashiers do whatever they want and that’s putting it lightly. If you’re not part of the kiss my butt club then you’re out.

Pros and Cons
Good company to work for if the management is right.

I need some of my better friendships working at Menards. Towards the end of my time with the company I was attending school. For my education, I was approaching the clinical aspect of my rotations. I had received my rotation schedule months in advance. I let management know the weekends that I would not be available to work as I would have to be working at hospitals and nursing homes for my curriculum. The supervisor I had at the time told me OK, and to try in the meantime, to find somebody to cover the shift. I agreed and attempted to have somebody to cover the shift that I needed. Some were able to be covered and some were not. I had attended my rotations as I had notified management of, and was told that I had to see the store manager the following day. they told me that I had a no call no show and that it wasn’t their responsibility to cover my shift.

Pros and Cons
Good coworkers, potential to have fun atmosphere at the work place.
Management never takes accountability and lies to throw their supervised employees under the bus

My time at Menards was overall positive. I learned a great deal about product knowledge and gained lots of real world experience in retail as well as management overall. My team was excellent, and my general managers were the best in the company. I felt appreciated and I knew my work didn’t go unnoticed. Unfortunately due to the standard schedule and time requirements the company imparts on the position, I was unable to maintain any semblance of a work-life balance, and could not make firm commitments to regular activities due to either changes to my schedule or I was to exhausted from the long hours. In addition, the pay and raises were minimal, and I was unable to make any steps towards improving my overall financial standing.

Pros and Cons
Health insurance offered and opportunities for advancement
Low pay and diminished work life balance

Working for this company was an amazing experience at first, the problem lies within the upper management. If you really want to know what goes on in any store listen to your employees from the Open Door policy. Store managers and the assistant managers are great but they are all human too and are not perfect they get more leniency when a complaint is made about them. The management also favors who they want as their department leads with no consideration of experience a person has. The HR is also a big problem more favoritism and employees with personal problems or issues are rumored like high school drama. It’s not professional at all and it starts with upper management, hanging out with some of the department managers gives no boundaries or discipline when need be.

Pros and Cons
I can’t really say any pros for this company
No advancement unless you are favored
