The Hydrodynamics team in Drive and Propulsion Engineering Department at Mercury Marine is seeking a Principal Engineer in propeller engineering and Technical Manager for propeller programs. The Principal Engineer will be expected to manage propeller engineering staff, design and develop prop-shaft interfacing technologies, assist in propeller development and evaluation, and manage and report the technical development of propeller programs.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Design and develop propeller to propeller shaft interfaces
Manage propeller engineering machining and designer capabilities
Acquire prototype hardware
Assist propeller engineers with blade development and performance evaluation
Interface with manufacturing, procurement, and suppliers
Coordinate and report technical development of propeller programs
Develop design standards and methodology for all hardware
Develop test procedures to evaluate hardware performance and durability
Minimum B.S Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Aerospace Engineering, Marine Engineering, or other similar.
3-5 years engineering experience working in mechanical design interfacing with designers, machinists, and other engineers
Strong track record of releasing successful designs within schedule and budget requirements
A reasonable working knowledge of fluid mechanics and desire to learn
Strong oral and written communication skills
5 years of experience in mechanical design of parts similar to propellers; highly complex geometry, rotating, cast or molded parts interacting with other mechanical and fluid elements
Some experience with propeller selection and terminology for small craft
