What does a Metallurgist do?
As Metallurgists, we regularly research materials using a variety of methodologies such as X-rays to look at a metal’s structure. We also examine the metal’s molecular structure using an electron microscope, while conducting elaborate tests to see and understand how each metal reacts to extreme conditions such as high heat, extreme cold, or physical stress. We work with other engineers to create and improve methodologies in order to extract metals from ore, and rock with a special focus on ensuring the complete extraction of the metal without damaging it.
Core tasks:
- identify new opportunities to enhance the efficiency of current extraction methods
- correctly identify metals and alloys within rocks
- devise and produce alloys of multiple metals as required
