The Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development (MDARD) works for food safety, protection of animal and plant health, environment. MDARD has six divisions wherein each department is responsible for separate issues ranging from consumer protection, rural development to efficient administration operations. This country’s agriculture department delivers expertise to support growth of Michigan’s food, agriculture, and forest product industries whereas the Animal Industry division is responsible for protection of the health of the public, livestock, and pets. The Environmental Division looks after soil and water conservation, drain system and development of soil and water resources. The Food and Dairy Division protects public health by ensuring a safe food supply. Laboratory Division ensures that food is pathogen free and provides testing to ensure the quality and quantity of packages contain product. The Pesticide and Plant Pest Management Division (PPPMD) is committed to implement laws regarding agricultural products, export commodities, pesticide sale and use and groundwater protection.
