Founded in January 1837, the Michigan Legislature is the legislature of the US state of Michigan. The legislature comprises the upper chamber, the Senate, the lower chamber, and the House of Representatives organized as a bicameral body. Adopted in 1963 Article IV of the Michigan Constitution defines the legislature’s main role, and how it can be constituted. The main purpose of the legislature is to create new laws and repeal or amend the laws in place. The Legislature convenes at the Capitol Building in Lansing. Any creation and amendment in state laws by Michigan Legislature can be vetoed by the Governor. The House of Representatives is headed by the Speaker, while the Senate is headed by the Lieutenant Governor of Michigan. The legislature website is a central resource for all the information regarding the laws, committees, and more, and can be reached for any career opportunities.
