Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is a public-school district offering Montgomery County, Maryland. It is one of the supreme school districts in the state of Maryland with 206 schools and ranks number 16 in the United States. The district had 13,094 teachers, 86.4 percent of whom had a master’s degree which serves almost 161,936 students at its 205 schools for the 2017-2018 school year. The first Board of Education of the County was named by the legislative enactments in 1817 which consisted of nine men. In 1920, Mrs. A. Dawson Trumble was appointed to the Board who offered a five-year term that led to a stable succession of female members. It was established in 1860 and the superintendent of the schools is Dr. Jack R. Smith. The vision of MCPS is to inspire learning by providing the greatest public education to each student. The County’s mission is to provide the academic, creative problem solving and social emotional skills to every student so that they become successful in college and career.
