Motorola Company Reviews and Ratings
Distinguished Member of Technical Staff
Libertyville, IL - September 11, 2024
I was hired at the peak of Motorola Wireless's market share dominance. Had the opportunity to work on disruptive handset designs, and grow in the technical ladder. Since the split between Motorola Mobility and Solutions, Motorola Mobility has been led by several CEOs who not only drove the company to the ground (Ed Zander, Ron Garrigues #1 in 1000 days, remember the fiasco?) but also changed the culture (Sanjay Sha). From a company based on technical merit to a management based on mediocre engineers posing as leaders. It went from 115.000 employees in owned design centers worldwide, to a couple hundred engineers sitting in a rental place in Chicago.
Pros and Cons
Technical exposure to state of the art technologies
At the end of my tenure, , it became a pool of mediocre engineers posing as leaders.

I started there in 1993 at the Itasca plant, and almost right away I found myself recognized for having good quality. I was given increasing responsibilities as time went by and felt appropriately compensated, and felt very much like it was a job I could stick with for an entire career.
Pros and Cons
recognition, advancement opportunities, educational opportunities, relaxed work culture
department outsourced when son of ceo took over

Great place to work back in the day. From Motorola Inc, to Motorola Mobility, Google and finally Lenovo. Unfortunately just a brand. Very uplifting to work with so many smart, professional and hardworking group of engineers and designers. Motorola developed the technology that we use in all our daily lives.
Pros and Cons
People, Products, Drive to do the right think, Change the way people communicate, Pushing technology
Became siloed between Analog to Digital Technology Framework

Over 25 years career. Did my best work there. At first, people were excellent, educated, and supportive. Later years focus turned into engineers per dollar mentality. Facilities moved overseas and quality dropped significantly.
Pros and Cons
Sense of accomplishment.
Relentless focus on downsizing. Demoralizing and no longer favored quality.
