The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) was founded in 1971. It is the main state agency in North Carolina. It has so far employed more than 19,000 people and has helped thousands of North Carolinians particularly the vulnerable children, elderly, disabled, and those from poor backgrounds.
