The upper house of the New York State Legislature is New York Senate. The lower house is the New York State Assembly, and it has 150 members. The senate has 63 seats and was controlled by the Republican Party for most of the 20th Century. The New York Senate is the representative house for 19 million citizens. Its primary function is to draft and approve amendments to the laws of New York. The ex officio President of the Senate is Lieutenant Governor of New York. New York senate works with the Assembly and the Governor to amend statuses by drafting and approving bills and resolutions. Members of the New York senate receive great benefits as approved by the government, and they are elected as per the policies of state government.
