Nickelodeon is a pay television channel in America that was tested on December 1, 1977 and launched nationally on April 1, 1979 as the first cable channel for children. It is owned by Viacom CBS and is in New York City. The network's programming is aimed at children aged ranging from 2–17 year and some of its program blocks for family audiences. The network was commercial-free and advertising free until 1984. On January 4, 1988, Nickelodeon launched Nick Jr. a weekday-morning block for preschool children. On August 11, 1991, the network introduced another flagship brand, the Nicktoons. The Nicktoons brand launched its own sister channel, in 2002. Nickelodeon created Noggin, an educational brand comprising a cable channel and an interactive website with Sesame Workshop. Two blocks aimed at a teenage audience, TEENick and As of September 2018, the channel is available to nearly 87 million households in the United States.
