Oxy Occidental College, based in Los Angles, is one of the country's most unusual urban liberal arts colleges. Oxy, which was founded in 1887 as Los Angeles' first liberal arts institution, offers a brilliant and varied group of students a comprehensive educational experience that prepares them for leadership in an increasingly interdependent, complex and multicultural society. President Barack Obama '83, Jack Kemp '57, federal judge Jacqueline Nguyen '87, and director Terry Gilliam '62 are among the College's illustrious alumni. Oxy alumni also contributed to the development science and technology such as streaming video and audio, the computer disc drive as well as the EKG and more effective treatments for multiple sclerosis.
