What does an Operating Room Registered Nurse do?

As Operating Room Registered Nurses, we specialize in assisting doctors during surgeries. We provide patients with care after their surgeries. Ensuring patient’s safety within the operating room is among our top priorities. We assess the condition of the patient before the surgery takes place. It falls to us to make sure all operating equipment is sterile. Operating Room Registered Nurses are tasked with collecting all required supplies for the surgery. We comply with all standard precautions in place. We liaise with physicians on patient care. We provide patients with recovery instructions post-surgery. Implementing patient care nursing plans is another duty of ours.

Core tasks:

  • updating the patient’s medical records
  • assisting to safely store surgical supplies
  • positioning patients on the operating table
  • monitoring the vital signs of patients
