Position Summary

The Operations Manager provides our school community with the necessary day-to-day resources and support needed to promote success for students and staff. As our Operations Manager, you will lead the work of facilities management, food service, technology, health and wellness, and school safety with a high bar and strong multitasking abilities. As the school’s Operations Manager, you will report to the Director of Finance and Operations and be a member of the school’s operations team. Additionally, you will directly manage the Day Porter and Kitchen Manager as well as outsourced contractors for security, health and wellness, IT, and facilities management.

Key Responsibilities

Facilities Management

  • Contextualize facilities standards to develop expectations and procedures for Day Porter and contractors
  • Lead school building opening and closing
  • Complete and coordinate day-to-day repairs and small scale improvements
  • Manage Day Porter and building cleaning and service contractors to ensure expectations for school building maintenance and cleanliness are met at the highest standard

Food Service

  • Manage, develop, and evaluate the Kitchen Manager
  • Establish and oversee emergency feeding plans for alternate school day schedules, missed deliveries, etc.
  • Manage ordering to minimize or eliminate non-reimbursed meals
  • Prepare monthly compliance submissions for the Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Program (FFVP)
  • Collaborate with the Business Manager to ensure compliance regulations are met for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP)

Technology

  • Lead the annual technology needs assessment/audit to plan for future needs
  • Oversee day-to-day technology requests and responses for teachers and staff
  • Collaborate with the Director of Finance and Operations to develop IT spending priorities
  • Establish and oversee internal parameters and procedures for technology usage by staff and students
  • Work with Business Manager to monitor grant purchased technology, to ensure compliance with all local and federal guidelines for purchase, use, and disposal
  • Manage outsourced IT support
  • Manage instructional technology distribution, accountable use, and set-up for all programs
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all instructional technology and coordinate with vendors to acquire any needed replacements or repairs for hardware
  • Develop guidelines and distribute resources for system access, features, and use
  • Serve as a point of contact for troubleshooting issues with technology and blended learning programs for teachers and staff

Health and Wellness

  • Understand and ensure school-wide compliance with DC health and safety requirements including the maintenance of documentation and scheduled inspections
  • Manage contracted school nurse
  • Coordinate with school leadership to assess priority health needs of the the school population
  • Collaborate with local school wellness committee to plan and lead appropriate initiatives to address identified priority health needs

School Safety and Security

  • Develop and implement school emergency plans and schedule emergency drills in compliance with both OSSE and DCPCSB requirements
  • Establish relationships with School Resource Officers (SROs) and contact them when needed
  • Manage contracted security personnel, providing onboarding and ongoing support
  • Lead annual security needs assessment to determine additional or revised services needed to meet the safety and security needs of the school community
  • Evaluate services provided by contractors to ensure alignment with school values and quality standards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • At least three years of work experience in a similar, school-based role and 1+ years of people management experience
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to quickly build rapport and foster positive relationships
  • Experience developing strong project plans with acute attention to the smallest details to ensure smooth, predictable, and effective outcomes
  • Ability to manage up and across while assessing team and school needs to identify areas for collaboration
  • Must be highly collaborative and believe strong in the important role of synergistic relationships in solving complex problems
  • Strong desire to grow as a professional and as a person, facing the challenges that come with deep reflection and direct feedback
  • Ability to relentlessly pursue goals, and work through obstacles. A high degree of initiative in resolving problems and implementing solutions in a fast-paced environment.
