About Optometric Technician

What does an Optometric Technician do?

As optometric technicians, we assist optometrists to perform administrative duties as well conducting visual acuity tests on clients. We also work in the laboratory helping in creating lenses and developing glasses and frames. We also help in offering patient care services and examination of their eyes. We perform small repairs on damaged and broken glasses. We sensitize patients on care and preservation of lenses. We optometric technicians also participate in creating lenses and assembling glasses. We similarly have a duty of maintaining records of patient examination notes and inventory of frames, glasses and lenses. Carrying out little repairs and maintenance on the examination machines is also our responsibility as optometric technicians.

  • offering care to patients and perform eye assessments
  • guiding patients on selecting frames
  • repairing glasses
  • conducting minor repairs on examination equipment
  • creating lenses and building glasses
  • maintaining records of patient conditions from tests
