Located on the west-central coast of the US state of Florida, Pasco County has a population of over 464,000 and is a county seat of Dade City, and the largest city of New Port Richey. Named after Samuel Pasco, the county is included in the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater Tampa Bay Area and is primarily a bedroom community for Tampa. The county includes several parks as well as trails that are found along the rivers, lakes, the Gulf of Mexico, and highway and railroad right-of-ways. There are several resorts where clothing is optional in Pasco. West Pasco includes retirement areas, fishing for commercial purposes, and suburbs of Tampa. The county was created on June 1887, from the southern third of Hernando County. According to the same legislation, Citrus County was also created from the Northern third of Hernando County. According to the US Census Bureau, the total area of the county measures 868 square miles.
