I was threatened by the “site manager”. Repeatedly. Asked to do extremely inthetbival things. Denied access to HR, told to “keep within our org”, The office is run by one person, who truly believes her ethics and ideals trump the corporate culture and values. Fist fights in the office, theft, assault, active drug use, and bullying by Site Manager and Director on site. Extremely unsafe office.

Lots of turnover. Always understaffed. Overwhelmed with all the work given. If you go on vacation your clients are given to coworkers whom sometimes don’t prioritize clients that aren’t theirs. One time I came back from a 3 day vacation and had over 20 missed payrolls. When I was over worked and needed support my supervisor wasn’t able to support me. However, experience may vary from supervisors. Other supervisors have better systems implemented for vacations- will advocate for you in situations like my vacation one. They will even help foster your growth and help you get promotion. When stressed out or overworked they some supervisors will work with you. I unfortunately had a supervisor who didn’t do either. In general lots of turn over due to the overall working system which did not alleviate the stressful work environment. Constantly overstaffed and a lot of people got burnt out and quit.

I continually got excellent reviews, which resulted in minimal increases and maximum additional responsibilities. My manager was a bully that constantly threatened and made people cry, but reporting it just made her worse. They are good at training the basics, but now have so many products that entry level payroll reps are supposed to know that it's impossible. We used to have individual trainers at each branch that were awesome. Now everything is online and virtual and read from a script.

I started my career with Paychex back in 2001. It was a great company to work for and I felt very much like my co-employees became an extension of my family. That was true while we worked out of the Ventura office on Valentine Road. But after we moved to Oxnard back in 2017, it gradually lost that family feel and started to feel more robotic and intense. I stayed on, thinking I was going to retire working there, but when we all got sent to work from home last year because of the pandemic, most of us thinking it would end in just a few weeks, the Corporate office decided after a full year to close our office and lay off all the Admin Staff & A/R , their Supervisor, Manager & 4 other Supervisors. This trend is going to follow to all the other branches so that eventually, the only remaining Admins will be those outsourced from out of the country.
