About Phlebotomist

What does a Phlebotomist do?

We, phlebotomist, are responsible for professionally and precisely performing blood draws and transfusions on blood donors and patients. We have to work directly with patients by attaining their blood samples through venipuncture or finger sticks. Other than these duties, we have to prepare samples for transporting and laboratory testing. We serve patients by identifying the best methods for retrieving samples. Our responsibilities include maintaining records of blood drawings, and generating reports to submit to physicians and other healthcare professionals. Our other responsibility includes ordering laboratory supplies as per the requirement.

Core tasks:

  • assessing patientโ€™s needs and reviewing their history
  • picking instrument needles and preparing veins for blood drawing
  • extracting blood from patients
  • analyzing blood samples
