What does a Physician Coder do?

As physician coders, we assign the correct universal medical code to identify the type of treatment a patient will receive. During the medical billing process, we assist with ensuring that the codes are applied properly. Our codes involve deleting details from documents, assigning the relevant codes, and making a claim to be paid by insurance providers.

Core tasks:

  • extracting pertinent data from medical records
  • interpreting facts liaise with physicians and other parties
  • assessing records for information that is missing
  • allocating CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and ASA codes
