The incumbent functions as a Physician's Assistant (PA) and will assist Supervisory Medical Officers by providing a wide range of health services, including occupational health, aviation medicine and public health. As an advanced practice specialist, the incumbent provides expert advice and guidance to officials, administrators, and healthcare providers on a wide range of medical and healthcare concerns. The incumbent must be prepared to evaluate urgent and emergent health care problems. Integrating primary health care needs and assessment of needs for approximately 10,000 patient visits annually. Implements and promotes approved standards in accordance with the American Medical Association regarding care, procedures, methods, techniques, safety precautions, and protocols for the integrated health team.
The Physician's Assistant will work on a team comprised of Registered Nurses (RNs), Health Technicians, and Medical Records Technicians (MRTs), with a focus on patient-centered, occupational and primary care focus based on health promotion and/or disease/illness prevention. Utilizes experience and knowledge in assessment, treatment and evaluation of a comprehensive range of health care issues focusing on work place injury and illness. Responsibilities include: assessments and history and physicals; interpretation of laboratory and radiographic: tests; and providing drug and alcohol testing and substance abuse evaluations. The PA also provides emergency measures, preventive health as applicable to position; prescribes medications and other treatments; orders, conducts, interprets laboratory, diagnostic studies and procedures. As an agent of the supervising medical officer, the PA is authorized to write medical orders on patients. Every prescription order written will be within the parameters of their scope practice.
In the absence of the Supervisory Medical Officer, the physician assistant will assume the role of primary care manager and be responsible for the oversight of the clinic. To ensure a comprehensive medical program, assesses the internal resources (clinic staff and equipment) and external resources (local emergency room and types of emergency care, urgent care, and first responders) to achieve best possible outcome for-patient care (stabilization and survival) and response to the MMAC supported organizations.
Develops initiatives for various clinical programs, based on organizational requirements and individual patient requisite clinical care , for clinical programs including allergy, patient care, occupational medicine, and workman compensation cases that focuses on continuous improvements to patient care, data tracking and reporting, and efficient use of resources.
As Pharmacy Control Officer, the PA will manage the clinic's pharmacy to include maintaining inventory of medications including controlled substances that will be inventoried and controlled based on the Drug Enforcement's Office of Diversion Control List of Controlled Substances regulations; immunization and medical supplies. Management of material will balance the needs of clinic: patients with the clinic budget and will provide supervisory medical officer input to annual budget plans.
The PA is responsible for substance abuse monitoring of all safety sensitive positions and other designated positions in accordance with FAA directives, as needed. Liaisons with other medical facilities (offsite) to support a collaborative effort to improve patient care at the MMAC.
As required, manages student education with the University of Oklahoma's PA development program through controlled internships. Maintains electronic and paper health records and medical information in accordance with established policy, and prepares reports in compliance with the Privacy Act, HIPAA and the FAA/CAMI medical staff rules and regulations.
Is a recognized technical expert in the development and interpretation of professional guidelines.
Occasional travel - The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis. The travel may be for training or other work-related duties.

All applicants must meet the following basic requirements for all grade levels:
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience: A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to the next lower level (FV-I/FG-13) and completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program is required.
Quality Ranking Factor (QRF): The following has been determined to be a Quality Ranking Factor for this position. Well-qualified candidates will possess certification in emergency care such as basic and advanced cardiac life support (BCLS & ATLS) and past certification in nursing (RN or LPN, industrial hygiene, (IH or EH), or training, licensure, or certification in other healthcare disciplines.
