About Pipefitter

What does a Pipefitter do?

As Pipefitters, we select the types and sizes of pipes and related materials and equipment, such as hangers, supports, and hydraulic cylinders, according to the contractor's needs. We plan the installation's sequence to avoid any obstruction in other workers' activities while regularly inspecting the worksite to identify any obstacle left. We cut and adjust pipes' length using hacksaws, hammer and chisel, pipe cutter, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine while bending pipes by hand or with pipe-bending tools and machine. We assemble and install various metal or nonmetal pipes and pipe fittings, using threaded caulked, soldering, brazen, fused, or cemented joints, and hand tools.

Core tasks:

  • secure the structure's pipes with clamps, brackets, and hangers
  • install and maintain refrigeration and air conditioning systems
  • test piping systems for any leak by increasing the pressure in pipes to observe any gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks
