About Police Dispatcher

What does a Police Dispatcher do?

As Police Dispatchers, we are responsible for handling emergency and non-emergency calls and focusing on the caller’s speech which might be inaudible or mal-articulated in order asses to the nature of each call and determine the proper personnel for response. We log the caller’s information such as name, location, nature of the call, parties involved, and any other pertinent details they will need to relay to law enforcement officers and other responders.

Core tasks:

  • use a two-way radio to relay all pertinent information to law enforcement officers
  • determine if other responders such as medical responders, firefighters are required
